DRY EYE

Dry eye is a trouble caused by a poor tears production (hypolacrimia): for a partial or total atrophy or for alterations, often on a hormonal basis, the lacrimal glands do not produce enough lacrimal fluid and the eye becomes, thus, more or less dry.
Sometimes, it is the discharging system to be too active. All this causes a wider traumatism due to the continuous eyelids movement on the ocular surface with every winking, and an insufficient cleansing of the same from foreign bodies and germs.
Besides, antibodies and lysozyme (elements of the tears with high antibacterial power) are lacking: the risk to come down with an infection, even from normally harmless germs, is therefore very high.
