Who we are
Born in Turin on August 3, 1956, where he followed his university studies and got the degree in Medicine and Surgery on November 4, 1981, discussing with professor G. Filogamo the experimental degree thesis “Development of the intrinsic musculature of the chicken embryo”, he specialized in Ophthalmology in 1985.
In 1982 he carried out the Practical Training in Ophthalmology at the 1st Hospital Department at Ospedale Oftalmico (Ophthalmologic Hospital) in Turin, directed by professor Vannini.
From June 17, 1982 up to March 12, 1986 he worked as Doctor assigned to the Ophthalmological Service at the Outpatients Department of the Unità Socio-Sanitaria (Local Health Authority) no. 33 in Nichelino (Turin).
From January 1, 1984 up to August 23, 1987 he worked as Consultant Ophthalmologist at Ospedale degli Infermi in Rivoli (Turin).
He taught Ophthalmology in the Scuola Infermieri Professionali (School for Trained Nurses) of the Socio-Sanitary Unit no. 25 in Rivoli (Turin) and no. 32 in Moncalieri (Turin), in the Training Schools for health workers without degree and in the Scuola Infermieri Professionali of Ospedale Mauriziano in Turin.
He took part in many National and International Congresses in Europe and United States; his scientific activity is documented by more than 30 publications printed in Italian and foreign scientific reviews.
From April 29, 1985 he worked as temporary Assistant Ophthalmologist in Ospedale Mauriziano in Turin; in 1986, after an open competition, he was appointed permanent Assistant Ophthalmologist and, in 1993, Jointly Responsible Assistant of the Ophthalmology Department in the same structure.
From November 26, 1985 he was Consultant Ophthalmologist in Ospedale Mauriziano in Luserna San Giovanni (Turin).
In 1987, as requested by the Unione Italiana Ciechi-Turin Division (Italian Blind people Association) and proposed by the Health Direction of the Ospedale Mauriziano in Turin, he began to deal with patients suffering from Retinitis Pigmentosa within the Piedmont Region.
In 1989 the collaboration with the Comitato Spontaneo Cittadini Non Vedenti di Torino (Spontaneous Committee of Turin Blind Citizens) and the Social Ophthalmology Service began, on demand of the President of the Ordine Mauriziano, professor D. Cravero.
In 1990 he was confirmed the appointment at member of the Comitato di Coordinamento Scientifico Nazionale della Federazione Italiana Associazioni per la Retinite Pigmentosa (National Scientific Coordination Committee of the Italian Federation of the Associations for Retinitis Pigmentosa), recognized by the International Retinitis Pigmentosa Association.
From June 1985 he worked exclusively as professional man, following his voluntary resignation from Ospedale Mauriziano Umberto I in Turin. From September 10, 1997 he was in charge of the Ophthalmology ward at Ospedale Evangelico Valdese in Turin. He worked as ophthalmic surgeon, with a particular partiality for the surgery of the anterior segment of the eye (cornea and crystalline lens) and for refractive surgery.
Besides, from April 2000 he coordinated the activities of the Ospedali Valdesi for ophthalmological activities in the branch offices of Torre Pellice and Pomaretto, up to their casting off to the Local Health Authority (ASL) of Pinerolo in June 2003.
In April 1990, he was appointed person in charge of the Social Ophthalmology Service of the Ophthalmology Department at Ospedale Mauriziano in Turin.
In 1997 he planned and coordinated the National training course for vision rehabilitators, designed for doctors and orthoptists, within of the HORIZON projects.
From September 200 he was in charge of the Ophthalmology Service at Ospedali Riuniti of Piedmont Local Health Authority (ASL) no. 3, of the Ophthalmology Service at Ospedale S.Agostino in Avigliana (Turin), where he practices surgery up till now.
From September 2003 up to these days he is the Director of the Ophthalmology ward at Casa di Cura (Nursing Home) Cellini in Turin (operating within the National Health Service).
